Hydra Vending Machine: Cardano Payments at Token2049
A real, physical vending machine that dispenses actual products using Cardano blockchain transactions.

Picture this: Token2049 in Singapore, one of the world's largest crypto conferences. Thousands of attendees from every corner of the globe, many experiencing Cardano for the very first time. Adam Dean from DripzDropz and the IOHK team had built something incredible: a real, physical vending machine that dispensed actual products using Cardano blockchain transactions. But they faced a moment of truth: how do you get thousands of people, most without any Cardano experience, to interact with your creation in just a few seconds?
Traditional wallets were out of the question. Browser extensions don't work on mobile phones, and asking conference-goers to download apps, create accounts, and manage seed phrases would kill the magic. They needed something that felt like magic: scan a QR code, get a wallet instantly, receive tokens, and interact with the machine. No downloads, no setup, no barriers.

"We needed users to sign json data with their phones and loved to see how simple it was for first time users who didn't already have a wallet installed."
By leveraging our infrastructure, the team generated unique wallets on-demand for each user interaction. Conference attendees simply scanned a QR code, received a wallet instantly, and could immediately interact with the vending machine, all without downloading apps or managing private keys. The experience was frictionless, and fast.
The results? Thousands of attendees successfully interacted with the vending machine, many experiencing Cardano for the first time. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: guests loved how easy and intuitive the experience was. This is exactly what UTXOS Wallet as a Service was designed for: removing barriers and making blockchain interactions feel effortless.
